Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya Celebrates the children’s Day 2009.

Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya Celebrated the children’s Day 2009 on 01.10.2009 at the school premises with the principal Mrs.Thilaka Wijenayake on the chair.All the school children were participated for the Children’s Day 2009 celebrations.There were series of activities organized by the teachers of the BMV with the help of students.First event was a drawing competition held class wise.The drawings were showed out in the classrooms.
The drawings were finally judged by the staff teachers and finalized by the Principal her self.Most of the students’ drawings were attractive and colorful.
The next event was musical chairs.Music was played over the school PA system and class wise students participated the game with their class teacher.
After the Musical chairs game the Main function started at the BMV main hall With principal Mrs.Thilaka Wijenayake on the chair and the BMV staff.Principal madam lighted the traditional oil lamp and opened the Function.
The function was colored by the Grade eleven girls first.They performed a Virindu.It was very significant item and of course the girls were performing at their best.Next item was by primary Section Students.The ‘Ha..Ha..Hari Hawa…’ musical song was trained by the primary teachers of the BMV.

After that the students were given refreshments organized by the teachers of the BMV.Finally Vice principal Mr.Sudath Withanachi addressed the gathering with some moral advises to the children.After that Principal Madam gave her speech.She stressed on the 2009 children’s day Theme and advised and guided students.At about 2pm the Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya’s 2009 children’s day function was concluded.

G.C.E.O/L students have less than two and half months to sit for the Examination.Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya have implemented several projects to up hold the strength and confidence of students.From 6.30 in the morning students will have to come to the school and from 6.30 to 7.30 there will be English Sessions.The speciality is the CLC manager,Aruna Sir conducts this sessions using OHP and other Technologies related to Classroom.Among them Computers are given priorities.We do not use CEB electricity for this purpose.We use our own Hydro power plant’s power do do this session.

The power we generate through the Picohydrow power plant is still under test run and we believe we will be able to run more equipments in near future.We would like to thank Practical action And the Students of Open University of Sri Lanka for helping us to Have a Picohydro power plant.Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya now lightened by this power during night time.And we believe we have been an example for sustaining development in Villages.Sustainable development is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations.
The term coined what has become the most often-quoted definition of sustainable development as development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”In this regard We,Batuwangala maha vidyalaya is confident and happy to see our villages expand their knowledge with the knowledge of their children work together to make this county even better.

ICT literacy programme for teachers in udugama Zone,Through BMV computer Lab….

Use of information and communication technology Education can lead to a range of beneficial education out comes. The technology has the enough potential to enhance the achievement of school going children as well as teachers ‘skill that are ready to face to the information era. Hence the teacher attitudes towards computer technology may be a significant factor in the implementation of use to computer in school system. It is very important to literate whole teacher community with information and communication technology.

In udugama Zone Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya has shown its’ capability of training community to use ICT.The evillage project is a bliss in this regard to the batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya.Today the Zonal director of Education For Udugama Zone Mr.D.S.Nandasena, Assistent Zonal director of Education For Udugama Zone Mr.P.G.Witana, And ICT facilitator for Udugama Zone Mr.H.M.Premadasa visited Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya and It’s computer Lab.

Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya’s computer Learning center Will be working for the pourpose of Training teachers in udugama Zone Parallell to the year of ICT and English.A computer course consist of all essencial basics of 48 hours will be conducted By.Aruna Sir,Manager of BMV,CLC for teachers in udugama Zone.

BMV computer Lab is a place which is always full of students.We would like to thank Zonal director of Education For Udugama Zone Mr.D.S.Nandasena, Assistent Zonal director of Education For Udugama Zone Mr.P.G.Witana,And ICT facilitator for Udugama Zone Mr.H.M.Premadasa for visiting us and we are looking forwed to work with this project.Vice principal Mr.Sudath Withanachi were also present.

Japan Sri Lanka Evillage Ambassador, Dr.Noriaki Suga

Batuwangala evillage now has its own recognition through the whole world. We receive lot of mails with comments. So we are to make some big steps with the global world. We are having some difficulties at the monument. So we decided to have foreign volunteers to join with our organization and move forward. Basically we are to provide services on online basis and we are to looking for the possibilities available for us to be sustainable. With this aspect we have call upon our well-wishers and we established a title to the honorable service done by them.

Japan Sri Lanka Evillage Ambassador’ comes alive with multipurpose coordination task. Dr.Noriaki suga is one of the sound characters through universe. He has serve billions of people who needed it. He has experiences in various fields for more than 35 years in Administrative level. Dr.Noriaki suga is a Buddhist and has served for the Buddhist temples and organizations in Sri Lanka very much. He has special interest in this Perl of Indian Ocean and wants the county to be phosphorous and peaceful.

By being a corporate management specialist Dr.Noriaki suga will work as a bridge to Batuwangala evillage to step in to global world. Several different projects works are scheduled to be under go with the consultancy of Dr.Noriaki suga. Basically Batuwangala evillage children will be given opportunities to learn Japanese culture and other various things regarding Japan. Mean while we look for the resources for BPOs and establishment of a youth society between Japan and Batuwangala evillage children.
Also we hope this connection of Dr.Noriaki suga will assist us to build our new computer lab in Batuwangala Rajamaha Viharaya, which is one of prime aim of Batuwangala evillage to address the need of computer knowledge of surrounding village children. By this lab we believe that we could be the hub which connects the southern part of Sri Lanka to the whole world.

A classroom With wi-fi Access…..

Batuwangala evillage has been successful for last one and half year and has grown rapidly.Mr.Anura Dissanaye,PD,SEMP recently gave us classmate computers.With this Batuwangala evillage will experience a wi-fi technology in the batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya.to day we launch CLPC programme first time in the school and we went to the vicinity of BMV.
We are now up to utilize a wi-fi network inside the school and we hope to give access directly to our lesson data base through the internet.Wi-fi is a wireless ethernet technology that allows people with laptop computers to connect to the internet while out and about at “hot spots”. It is also used to connect cordless phones with VoIP.which allows any user with a Wi-Fi enabled device to connect to a wireless access point at speeds of up to 11 Mbps.
With this technology Students can directly access to the internet and browse for their blogs and webs.They also can now use the computer from any where else in the network area.

At the monument we do design the lessons prior to the class and share them using flash drives.We would like to invite every one who is willing work wi us for us to have a wireless zone in the school.We especially thank to SEMP,Department of Education,Sri Lanka for their dedication to bring the batuwangala evillage up.

Batuwangala evillage utilized inside the Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya, along with the Practical Action started A hydro power plant project. Batuwangala evillage experiences difficulties to pay for electricity.Mr Rohitha, From Practical Action programme Came to help us.There will be a power plant,generating 400W for batuwangala evillage.Using this power supply ,The computer lab may operate computers by Charging battery panel.
We believe that this will be a sound Experience to the youngsters in the village.They are observing the process of how to generate electricity from the Hydro power.All So Mr.Rohitha Explained each and every step to the BMV students.
We are ruining the test from to day and Mr.Rohitha and his crew from Practical action has come here for this task.We are grateful to them and we hope to launch the hydropower plant in near future.

The story of our motherland is presently taking a different turn, a turn which is unprecedented and never thought of. At this crucial milestone of our country, Sri Lanka requires the assistance of all its citizens both in and out of Sri Lanka to speed the process of recovery and develop a country which has extraordinary potential. In light of achieving this primary objective, the ‘Mother Sri Lanka’ project is working towards bringing together diverse perspectives under one umbrella to develop positive thinking about Sri Lanka. The Mother Sri Lanka Program is implemented with leadership and direction from the President’s Office.

Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya took Part the debate Series organized by the Mother Sri Lanka Foundation and won the first place from the zonal level.Then we Participate for the district level competition held at Richmond college Galle.We would like to alarm that we won the second place at over there.from 12 schools selected from Galle district we won the second place.Given bellow are the BMV team.
we would like to Thank every one who contributed them selves towards this victory.Specially Principal Thilaka Vijenayake,Mr.Chinthaka Chandra Kumara,Mrs.Deepika and Mr.Aruna Chaminda For their immense sacrifices behind this.

Board of prefects for 2009.

Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya recruited board of prefects for the year 2009 recently at the school main hall.The divisional director of education Mr.Sena Koswaththa was the chief guest and Mr.Rasika Waththegama,OIC of Neluwa Police was also among the distinguish guests.principal Thilaka Wijenayake took the responsibility all the time keeping her staff behind this mammoth process.Mr.Chinthaka Chandrakumara,the in charge of the Bord of prefects welcomed the gathering and after religious observances the function began.Mr.Sena Koswaththa address the gathering and explained the impotence of being a prefects.he further explained that one from this set of prefects may one day be leader like our president.prefects are the secondary force to poster school administration according to Me.Koswaththa.The newly appointed prefects were very much attentive to listen to Mr.Koswaththa.Mr.Koswaththa has been working as a teacher in the BMV when he was a teacher.He gave brief history of his era in BMV also.Then he marked the process.After that Mr.Rasika waththegama gave the badge to one of student and he also gave some valuable advices to the students.

According to Mr.Rasika Waththegama leaders are the people who saturates the goals of the particular institution.he also revealed that the board of prefect are 35 in number where the whole student population is 350.So out of 35 students one has become prefect.He admired the bored of prefects and gave some historical legends to show how leaders must get in to descition.Mr.Rasika waththegama Stressed on the matter that if the intentions of principal to appoint the prefects to assist her with school administration,the board of prefects are asked to poster that intentions of the principal.Finally the new prefects took oath.

The function was successfully finished by afternoon.We wish all the best for the bord of prefects 2009.

When we start this project work we, as Batuwangala evillage wanted to have local CBO support.We would like to thank the villagers who let us to build the power plant in their small tea plots and paddy fields to run wires.Also our special thank goes to Miss Harini and Mr.Rohitha for their kind consideration about batuwangala maha Vidyalaya and Batuwangala e-village.

This project will supply 300W power to the computer lab and will contribute to our electricity bill.Batuwangala e-village Faces the problem of paying electricity bills and we wanted to have this kind of project from the beginning.Our well wishers are also thanked for their support to pay the electricity bills and their kind contributions for students’ ICT education. The project now has reached to its third phase where only wiring the lab is left.With in another two weeks The power from the plant will contribute with the computer lab.

Sinhala Tamil new Year.

In April (the month of Bak) when the sun moves from the Meena Rashiya (House of Pisces) to the Mesha Rashiya (House of Aries) Sri Lankans begin celebrating their National New Year Aluth Avurudhu in Sinhala and Puththandu in Tamil. However, unlike the usual practice where the new year begins at midnight, the National New Year begins at the time determined by the astrologers. Not only the beginning of the new year but the conclusion of the old year is also specified by the astrologers. And unlike the customary ending and beginning of new year, there is a period of a few hours in between the conclusion of the Old Year and the commencement of the New Year , which is called the nona gathe (neutral period). During this time one is expected to keep off from all types of work and engage solely in religious activities.

This also coincides with the time when the harvest ends, so the colorful fruit from the trees is collected in bulk to fuel the week-long celebrations. Festivities are prepared well in advance and most of the country grinds to a halt as hundreds travel home to be with their families and stores close down in their wake – it can be impossible to track down the simplest of things just before it all starts.

The rituals begin with the cleaning of the house and lighting of an oil lamp, and women congregate to bash on the raban (drum) to warn others of the incipient change in the year. If you fail to hear this, a storm of firecrackers is bound to hammer the point home.

Families indulge in a variety of rituals which are carefully determined by astrological calculations – from lighting the fire to making the kiri (milk rice) bath, to entering into the first business transaction and eating the first morsels.

Once these are done, the partying really begins as families mingle in the streets, homes are thrown open and children are let out to play. The ubiquitous plantain is dished out alongside celebratory feasts of kaung (small oil cake) and kokis (crisp and light sweetmeat, originally from the Netherlands).

Aurudu has become an important national holiday for both the cultures of the Sinhalese Buddhists and the Tamil Hindu Sri Lankans, and is unique as such, as it is not celebrated elsewhere in the world. Indeed wealthy Sri Lankans make it an excuse to come home from wherever they are to make it a long holiday season.

Those who can’t handle the heat of the pre-monsoon season in the south escape to the cooler hills and indulge in the expensive pastimes of the elite – such as polo, golf, tennis and motor racing.
